ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Starting in 2014, Hall of Famer Andre Metzger Sparked the North Texas. In 2019, the club was on the brink of dissolving, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic ultimately led to its shutdown. However, in 2021, freshmen Chase Saba and Caden Chancey reignited the program, driven by their passion for collegiate competition.
Since then, under the outstanding leadership of both students and coaches—including Dennis McInnery, Marcus Collins, Nate Falconer, and now new head coach Tony Olivo—the team has experienced a remarkable transformation. What once was a group of just seven athletes has flourished into one of the largest teams in the NCWA Southwest Conference, now boasting over 30 registered competitors.
Beyond the victories and growth in numbers, this team has become a true home for its athletes—a place where lifelong bonds are forged, discipline is instilled, and strong habits are built. More than just a wrestling program, it’s a family that supports each other on and off the mat, pushing teammates to be their best while creating friendships that last a lifetime. Through the challenges of training and competition, members develop resilience, leadership, and a work ethic that extends far beyond wrestling, preparing them for success in all aspects of life.
